The Writing Company.
Where ideas turn on the light.
The Mayor of Grammaropolis runs the Writing Company. Other characters teach grammar; he teaches what to do with it. Five purposes, eight prewriting techniques, six steps from blank page to finished draft. Guest experts (Nelson on specific nouns, Vinny on strong verbs, Jake on description) appear chapter by chapter.
The Grade 5 pilot is in production. Subsequent grades follow the pilot in this order: G6, G7, G4, G8, G3, G2, G1. Each grade inherits the same nine-chapter spine, recalibrated to the developmental band.
The framework.
The published Grammaropolis Writing Framework, distilled from Coert's six years teaching seventh-grade writing at Pinewood and the four Writing Prompt Journals Grammaropolis published in 2021. Aligned to CCSS W.1 through W.10 anchor standards.
The five CCSS-aligned purposes of writing.
- To Entertain. Narrative, story, anecdote. The fun reason to write something.
- To Describe. Sensory detail, character sketches, place writing. The painterly reason.
- To Explain. How-to, process, cause-and-effect. The teacher reason.
- To Inform. Facts, statistics, reporting. The journalist reason.
- To Persuade. Argument, opinion, editorial. The lawyer reason.
The eight prewriting techniques.
- Freewrite
- Brainstorm
- Cluster (mind map)
- 5 Ws and the H
- Venn Diagram
- Five Senses chart
- Series of Events timeline
- Character Sketch
Grade 5 pilot: in production.
"Power Words: Specific Nouns" is the lead chapter, with Nelson the Noun as the guest expert. The Mayor writes the foreword. Nine chapters total. Layout brief and answer key locked. Targeting Q3 2026 ship.
The build sequence.
Grade 5 first. Then G6, G7, G4, G8, G3, G2, G1. Sequence reflects combined Pinewood (2005-2006 classroom curriculum) and 2021 Writing Prompt Journal source coverage per grade. Kindergarten is a documented extraction gap; not in the current eight-SKU plan.
